On my trip to Turin, I had a crisp to-do list. It was the 8th of March i.e. Women's Day, and it's celebrated quite nicely across Italy. It felt nice to be treated to free visits to all the museums in the city and I obviously decided to make the most of it!

My top priority was to taste bicerin, followed by visiting the Egyptian Museum, apparently the second most important museum in the world after the one in Cairo. Entering it literally takes you back in time with it's well-preserved collection of more than 30,000 artifacts along with several beautifully preserved mummies, oh what a sight to see! Some snippets below, (though I would really recommend seeing these in person):
After having spent close to 3 hours in the museum, I needed to recharge my batter and what better way than with a cup (actually glass) of chocolaty drink! I head straight to Caffé al Bicerin dal 1763.
Now let's talk a little about this 'not-so-famous' famous drink. I say so because even my friends who've lived in Turin didn't know about this well preserved treasure until I showed them the pictures and shared my experience! Talk about being a local :p

BICERIN - pronounced as 'Bee-Cheh-Reen' is a drink composed of a freshly made shot of espresso, followed by chocolate sauce/melted chocolate and lastly topped by milk foam/milk cream. Sounds simple right? Wait till you have a sip of it though to experience the flavour and textural complexity. Ambrosial!

Served in tall transparent glasses, it's supposed to be sipped without mixing. That way you get to experience the different textures, tastes and temperatures with each sip and it's absolutely gorgeous!
The price is a little steep, around €6.50 when I last had in 2019, however, I would still be willing to go and sip this textural bliss if nothing but for the beautiful ambiance of this charming little café with old-world charm, replete with vintage wooden furniture, fancy chandelier and marble-top tables.
All the marble topped tables in the café have a small candle by the side, making it a perfect setting to go on a date with that special someone or just yourself (like I did!)
Also on a good day, be ready to stand in a queue, the effort itself making the tasting of the bicerin all the more exciting in my opinion!
Well if you do happen to travel to Torino in the near future, I wish you buona degustazione! And if you've already tasted this delicacy, let me know in the comments below :)
